The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides programs and services and advocates on behalf of Black journalists worldwide. It operates in the newspaper publishing industry and is headquartered on the campus of the University of Maryland–College Park in College Park, Maryland. NABJ was founded on December 12, 1975, in Washington, D.C., by 44 men and women, and it is described as the largest organization of journalists of color in the United States. The organization annually awards roughly $100,000 in scholarships and internships for college and high school students, and offers fellowships for seasoned professionals; the NABJ Media Institute provides professional development and technical training for Black journalists at venues across the country.
