The National Association of State Foresters (NASF) was founded in 1920 and is based in Washington, District of Columbia, serving as a key reference on forest management in the United States. Its members comprise the directors of forestry agencies from the 50 states, five U.S. territories, three nations in compacts with the United States, and the District of Columbia, and they act as the primary implementers of forest management nationwide.

NASF advocates for federal legislation and national policy to support the health, resilience, and productivity of forests in both rural and urban settings, and its work includes wildfire protection across more than 1.5 billion acres. In September 2024, Patty Cormier, Maine State Forester, was elected NASF president, marking a notable leadership development.
