Founded in 1968, the National Black Law Students Association is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that coordinates a national network of minority law students. It is the largest student-run organization representing nearly 6,000 students across more than 200 ABA-accredited law schools. The association operates through six regions—Western, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Rocky Mountain, and Southern—and includes chapters or affiliates in six countries, including The Bahamas, Nigeria, and South Africa.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, NBLSA seeks to articulate and promote the needs and goals of Black law students and to effect change in the legal community. It functions as a mid-sized organization focused on leadership development and advocacy within legal education. In early 2026, NBLSA participated in its 55th Regional Convention, with the Southern Region hosting the event in Birmingham and the Bryan K. Fair Chapter of the Black Law Students Association receiving the Medium Chapter of the Year Award.
