The National Cleaners Association is a nonprofit trade organization focused on advancing the professional garment care industry through education, innovation, and operational excellence. Founded in 1946 and based in New York City, it serves dry cleaners, laundry professionals, and industry partners by providing tools, resources, and advocacy to help members navigate a changing marketplace. As a small industry body, it emphasizes improving operational effectiveness and setting higher industry standards across its member network. To support modernization, the association addresses the AI readiness gap through its SmartCare Operating System, which integrates AI, automation, compliance, and business intelligence into daily workflows to support data-informed decisions. Its membership offers an ecosystem of benefits, including insurance programs, workforce training and certifications, regulatory compliance support, and an active professional network, with training spanning OSHA and regulatory topics as well as AI-enhanced customer experience strategies. It also acts as an industry advocate for cleaner practices and sustainability, and in December 2023 appointed Dawn Hargrove-Avery as interim executive director.
