The National Conference for Catechetical Leadership (NCCL) is a United States-based organization focused on Catholic religious education, dedicated to advancing the teaching ministry of Jesus to children, youth, and adults. It operates in the religious institutions sector and is positioned as the only independent national body dedicated exclusively to supporting catechetical leadership across the Catholic Church. Its membership includes bishops, pastors, diocesan and parish directors of religious education, as well as academics and publishers of catechetical materials, collectively guiding the church's catechetical mission. Based in Washington, DC, NCCL is a small organization with roots dating back to the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine movement and formal establishment in 1967. In recent years, it has advanced initiatives to strengthen catechetical leadership, such as the 2018 launch of The Effective Catechetical Leader series in collaboration with Loyola Press.
