The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is a United States-based nonprofit organization focused on conservation. Chartered by Congress in 1984, it has grown to become the nation’s largest conservation foundation, funding more than 23,300 projects that collectively generate a total conservation impact of more than $11.3 billion. The organization collaborates with partners to develop sustainable and impactful conservation solutions so that people and nature can thrive together. NFWF operates within the nonprofit conservation sector and is aligned with America’s Ecosystem Restoration Initiative, also known as AERI. Its work targets ecosystem restoration across the United States by partnering with government agencies, other nonprofits, and community groups to address conservation challenges and enhance biodiversity and resilience. In 2026, leadership transitioned when John Berry left the foundation as director to become the director of the Honolulu Zoo.
