The National Governors Association is a bipartisan organization that brings together the nation’s governors to advance state leadership, share best practices, and present a coordinated voice on federal policy. It provides governors and their senior staff with support in representing states on Capitol Hill and before the federal administration, and it promotes policy innovation through the NGA Center for Best Practices. Founded in 1908 and based in Washington, D.C., the association represents the governors of the 55 states, territories and commonwealths. In 2026 the organization pursued collaborations, including a partnership with McKinsey & Company and the Center for Civic Futures on AI and the future of work. The year also featured policy-focused gatherings such as its annual policy summit and related workshops.
