National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is a major U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory focused on energy systems research and development. Based in Golden, Colorado, it functions as a large-scale research institution serving the energy sector and academic partners. Its work advances energy technologies and system design to support reliability, resilience, and efficiency in energy infrastructure. In May 2026, NLR launched Agora, a data center grid integration test bed intended to improve grid reliability. The lab collaborates with universities and industry partners to advance energy research and strengthen energy and material supply chains, including engagements with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the Colorado School of Mines, and the University of Utah.
