The National League for Nursing is a professional association that represents nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. Founded in 1893 as the nation’s first nursing organization, it aims to improve the health of the nation and the global community by promoting excellence in nursing education and building a strong, diverse nursing workforce. Based in Washington, DC, it serves a sizable membership that includes about 40,000 individuals and 1,300 institutions. The organization offers faculty development programs, networking opportunities, testing and assessment resources, nursing research grants, and public policy initiatives to support nursing education. In May 2026, it launched NLNursingEd, a new app for nurse educators, signaling a digital expansion of its offerings. Operating in the hospitals and health care space as a mid-sized nonprofit, the NLN positions itself as a professional resource within nursing education for both individuals and institutions.
