The National Oceanography Centre (NOC), based in Southampton, England, is a leading oceanographic research institution. It conducts world-class research from coastal seas to the deep ocean to advance understanding of marine systems and address environmental challenges, while developing the technologies that enable that work. The organization brings together scientists, engineers, technologists and digital experts to generate integrated scientific knowledge for government and business partners. As the UK lead centre for UKRI-NERC marine research, it supports evidence-based decision making. Operating within the research services sector, NOC collaborates with government and industry to translate scientific insights into practical guidance. It is among a small group of global institutions with equipment and expertise capable of operating at depths down to 6,000 meters. In 2026, the centre expanded its outreach by partnering with Creative Tuition Collective to offer opportunities for 14- to 19-year-olds.
