The National Society for Histotechnology is a professional organization within the hospitals and health care sector, founded in 1973 by histology practitioners who sought to advance the discipline through shared scientific and technical knowledge. Based in Ellicott City, Maryland, the society serves histology professionals from around the world and counts more than four thousand members. It supports the field with a range of educational and scholarly offerings, including a quarterly journal and ongoing learning resources, as well as an annual symposium and convention that typically gathers about 1,500 attendees from around the world.
