The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa is a zoological garden established in 1899 and based in Pretoria, Gauteng. It operates as a facility of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and functions as a platform for research, education, conservation and tourism. With a mid-sized workforce, the garden supports biodiversity-related research and public engagement through its educational and visitor programs. In August 2024, NZG introduced three lionesses described as having overcome adversity, highlighting its role in animal care and conservation within its exhibits and habitats.
