PHHI is a research and extension program located on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis. Its aim is to serve as a hub for identifying and translating plant- and food-derived approaches that support disease prevention and health. The work covers the continuum from plant genetics and crop breeding to food processing and dietary health impacts, drawing on nutrition, food science, and plant science expertise to develop plant-based health strategies. The institute primarily engages researchers, educators, and partners seeking practical applications of plant-based health research. As part of NC State University’s research services ecosystem, PHHI connects foundational science with real-world health outcomes. Recent NC State-wide developments include partnerships with community colleges to expand guaranteed admissions pathways.
