NCOC acts as the operator under Kazakhstan's North Caspian Sea Production Sharing Agreement, guiding the North Caspian Project. The arrangement unites seven partners—KazMunayGas, Eni, ExxonMobil, Shell, TotalEnergies, CNPC, and Inpex—to develop offshore resources across three fields: Kashagan, Kairan, and Aktoty. Kashagan ranks among the largest offshore oil discoveries of the past four decades, with recoverable reserves estimated at 9 to 13 billion barrels; the field lies roughly 80 kilometers offshore from Atyrau in about 3 to 4 meters of water, with the reservoir depth exceeding 4,200 meters. Commercial offshore production from Kashagan began in 2016 after a major pipeline replacement project, with the operator re-opening the first offshore wells on September 28 of that year. NCOC is based in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, and oversees a sizable workforce dedicated to operating this large-scale offshore development.
