The Nesconset Fire Department is a volunteer fire department serving the eastern portion of the Town of Smithtown, Long Island, New York. The department is governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners and led by the Chief of Department. The department serves Nesconset and parts of St. James, Smithtown, Lake Grove and Ronkonkoma. The Nesconset Fire Department responds as requested for mutual aid assistance throughout the county and state. 

Each year the Nesconset Fire Department responds to approximately 1600 emergency incidents. A little more than half of the responses are for persons who require medical assistance and transportation to area hospitals. The other half of the call volume are responses to Motor Vehicle Accidents, Structure Fires and Automatic Fire Alarms, Vehicle Fires, Brush Fires or other Outside Fires. The fire department also responds to a miscellaneous alarms such as SCUBA/Water Rescues, electrical hazards, flooding conditions, natural gas leaks, fuel spills, or other requests for assistance. 

The department is made up of 120 men and women organized into Engine Company 1, Ladder-Rescue Company 2, and Fire Police Company 3. Each volunteer receives training at the entry level to meet the requirements for Firefighter I defined by the National Fire Protection Association and also to meet the Requirements of Emergency Medical Technician - Basic defined by the New York State Department of Health. The basic training in combination with the diversity of backgrounds of the membership makes the Nesconset Fire Department a versatile unit. Every member is entitled to take advanced classes to enhance their firefighting or emergency medical skills.
