New Mexico Tech, officially the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, is a research university located in Socorro, New Mexico. Founded in 1889 as the New Mexico School of Mines, it has evolved into an institution focused on science, engineering, mathematics, entrepreneurship, and related disciplines. Its research portfolio includes work in hydrology, astrophysics, geophysics, atmospheric physics, homeland security, information technology, geosciences, energetic materials engineering, and petroleum recovery.
