The New York City Bar Association is a voluntary professional organization in the legal services sector, based in New York City at 42 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036. The association has between 201 and 500 employees and about 24,000 members. Founded in 1870, it is dedicated to upholding high ethical standards in the legal profession, promoting reform of the law, and serving both the profession and the public. Its 150 committees issue hundreds of reports and present hundreds of events each year. The organization operates services such as the Legal Referral Service, which matches vetted lawyers with clients; the City Bar Center for CLE, which provides continuing legal education; and the City Bar Justice Center, which offers pro bono legal services to the disadvantaged. Protecting the public welfare remains one of the association's highest priorities.
