New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is a nonprofit organization focused on pretrial justice in New York City. As the city's only pretrial agency, it conducts system-wide interviews and collects data to inform policymakers, court officials, legal experts, advocates, and the media, and it operates the city's only hotline for defendants and their families. The organization seeks to create a fairer, more efficient criminal justice system by reducing unnecessary pretrial detention and helping defendants remain connected to their families and communities. In July 2024, CJA announced a partnership with the Urban Institute through the Catalyst Grant Program to support data-driven efforts aimed at racial equity and reform.
