The Newport-Mesa Unified School District is a public education system serving kindergarten through 12th grade in southern Orange County, based in Costa Mesa, California. It covers 58.83 square miles and includes the cities of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa along with surrounding unincorporated areas, serving more than 21,500 students. The district operates 31 schools, comprising 22 elementary schools, two intermediate schools, four high schools, an alternative education center, an Early College High School, and an adult education center. The district has a long-standing presence, having begun operations on July 1, 1966. In January 2023, the district appointed Keith Carmona as director of teaching and learning for secondary education. The district has pursued community collaborations in the past to support students, including a partnership with Project Hope Alliance that began in 2015 to provide on-campus services.
