Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is a regional airport serving the Hampton Roads area from its base in Newport News, Virginia. Established in 1947 on land formerly used by a World War II Army base, the facility has evolved to operate under its current name since 2009 and provides air travel access through several airlines with direct and connecting flights. The airport supports a small, local traveler market by offering on-site amenities such as a restaurant, bar, and news/gift shop, along with parking options and a complimentary shuttle service. It maintains a modest workforce and positions itself within the airlines and aviation sector as a regional transportation hub, focusing on convenient access for residents and visitors in the surrounding region. A recent notable development involves the airport management receiving recognition for community service.
