The Norfolk Admirals are a mid-sized professional hockey organization based in Norfolk, Virginia, competing in the ECHL. They serve the Hampton Roads region, a 1.8-million-strong community that includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News and parts of northeastern North Carolina. With more than three decades in operation, the franchise has earned three ECHL championships and an American Hockey League Championship, illustrating a long history in both leagues. In 2019 the organization was acquired by former Admiral Patrick Cavanagh, an original player who helped the franchise win its first ECHL title, who then named Rod Taylor as head coach. A recent development occurred in 2025 when the Admirals acquired assets from the Idaho Steelheads, including a former ECHL MVP, indicating an expansion of the roster and capabilities.
