North Carolina Central University is a public, mid-sized higher education institution based in Durham, North Carolina. Founded in 1910 as the National Religious Training School and Chautauqua, it established the nation’s first public liberal arts institution for African Americans. Today, NCCU operates as a master’s comprehensive university offering bachelor's and master's degrees, a Juris Doctor, and a Ph.D. in Integrated Biosciences for a diverse student body. Its teaching, research, and service mission spans the arts, sciences, business, education, and law, with active research activities conducted in the Research Triangle Park. Through its programs, the university aims to prepare students to become global leaders and practitioners who transform communities. In April 2026, NCCU officially launched the Light Leap Prism Platform to streamline transfer pathways and advance student mobility.
