Northeast Hearing & Speech Center, based in Portland, Maine, provides nonprofit clinical services focused on speech-language pathology and audiology. Founded in 1924, it is the state's oldest and largest center dedicated to speech, language, and hearing care, staffed by licensed professionals who hold advanced degrees and credentials from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The center serves children and families through direct therapy and extends its reach by training teachers and collaborating with preschools to support language development and early literacy. Its clinicians participate in ASHA's National Outcomes Measurement System and have engaged in research projects related to treatment approaches, including piloting iPads in preschool therapy. It is one of six centers in Maine authorized to perform Auditory Brainstem Response assessments for the Maine Newborn Hearing Program.
