NPCC is a not-for-profit corporation based in New York that oversees the reliability of the interconnected bulk power system in Northeastern North America. It is one of six Regional Entities within the Electric Reliability Organization Enterprise, operating alongside NERC, and it pursues reliability through two main streams: regional entity activities, which develop regional reliability standards and assess and enforce compliance, and criteria services activities, which establish region-specific criteria and monitor compliance.

Its geographic scope includes New York, the six New England states, and Canadian provinces Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, spanning about 1.2 million square miles and more than 55 million people. From a load perspective, the region is about 46% U.S. and 54% Canadian, with roughly 70% of Canadian net energy for load within NPCC. In 2023, NPCC launched a Northeast gas/electric system study, reflecting its role in coordinating reliability and system planning across cross-border infrastructure.
