Northwest Kidney Centers is a not-for-profit, locally managed provider in the hospitals and health care sector that delivers kidney dialysis, public health education, and research into chronic kidney disease. Founded in Seattle in 1962, it is recognized as the world’s first dialysis organization. The organization operates 20 dialysis clinics across western Washington in Clallam, King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, provides treatments in local hospitals, and supervises hundreds of home dialysis users. As the largest dialysis provider in its community, it serves about 80% of the people in the area who need dialysis. It conducts more than 268,000 dialysis treatments annually and reports outcomes such as a transplant rate of 6.6%, well above the national average of 4.2%. Based in the Seattle area with a Seatac address, the nonprofit employs a workforce in the hundreds. In September 2025, Northwest Kidney Centers announced a collaboration with Outset Medical, Inc. to transform the dialysis experience.
