The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) is a nonprofit tribal advisory organization established in 1972 that serves 43 federally recognized tribes across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Based in Portland, Oregon, the organization coordinates with member tribes, whose Delegates are appointed by tribal resolution and meet quarterly to oversee activities. Its strategic plan centers on four functional areas: promoting health and disease prevention, analyzing legislation and policy, providing training and technical assistance, and conducting surveillance and research. NPAIHB operates the Northwest Tribal Epidemiology Center and leads a range of health promotion and disease prevention projects while maintaining an active role in Indian health policy. Recent initiatives include partnerships with Heritage University and Northwest Indian College to develop a two-year BHA Education Program, aimed at preparing tribal-based health care providers. The organization is also advancing Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ health equity through provider education efforts and a six-month Trans & Gender-Affirming Care ECHO.
