Nova Labs is a membership-driven, all-volunteer makerspace based in Fairfax, Virginia, founded in 2011 to support hands-on making. Its 25,000-square-foot facility at 3850 Jermantown Road houses classrooms, workspace, incubator offices, and a shop with both common tools and advanced fabrication equipment. Members have around-the-clock access and participate in governing and operating the space by teaching classes, maintaining equipment, and promoting making in the community; the organization relies on volunteers with a small professional staff. In 2022, Nova Labs relocated its operations to Fairfax City, consolidating its presence in the region after previously operating in Reston. Operating within the civic and social sector, the organization provides facilities and educational activities to people interested in collaborative making, and it has pursued initiatives beyond its core space, such as launching indoor Helium Mobile Hotspots in the greater Miami-Dade area in 2023.
