Novuson, a spinout from the University of Washington’s highly regarded Applied Physics Laboratory’s Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound, is developing its Direct Therapeutic Ultrasound (DTU) technology platform for coagulation and hemostatic control in surgical and trauma procedures. DTU technology should enable clinicians to perform surgeries more quickly and to rapidly control bleeding associated with traumatic injuries. The company founders are Stuart B. Mitchell, PhD. and Francesco P. Curra, PhD. DIRECT THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND Novuson’s patented DTU technology represents the first substantive innovation in over 25 years for targeting vessel sealing / dividing, and hemostasis (bleeding control) in surgical and trauma applications. Existing RF solutions rely on transmission of high frequency electrical currents through the patient, and “Harmonic” solutions rely on friction heat by means of mechanically vibrating cutting bars. Both are severely limited in speed, precision and range of application. Not Commercially Available For Sale.
