In 1962, Edward R. May started installing industrial and commercial panels under the name Shoals Roofing Company.  By 1964 Edward May was an established construction company contracting jobs that included all aspects of the metal building process. The company was known after this transition as Oakland Metal Buildings.
 
During the next few years Oakland Metal Buildings continued to expand and recognized the need for vertical integration to competitively serve its customers. Expansion of capacity included floor space, departmentalization, specialized processes, and automated equipment. By the time Oakland Metal Buildings incorporated in 1976 the company was fully integrated with all phases of metal building fabrication and erection.

After Edward May’s retirement in 1995, his son Phillip May, assumed the duties of President. Phillip’s determination expanded Oakland Metal Buildings beyond the local market into the southeast region and beyond.

Today Oakland Metal Buildings, Inc. maintains its core business in the Southeast but ships its products nationally. Phillip E. May has transitioned away from day to day operations as he prepares for retirement. His son, Jerrod Adams, like Phillip before him leads Oakland Metal Buildings into a new era of metal building structures. Three generations of dedicated, determined, and devoted family provided a solid foundation for future growth and investment in this 50 year old business. Come grow with us!
