OFII, the French Office for Immigration and Integration, acts as the primary point of contact for foreign nationals in France, coordinating reception, support, and integration efforts. It operates under the authority of the General Directorate for Foreigners in France within the Ministry of the Interior, a supervisory arrangement in place since 2010. The agency manages asylum-seeker reception, oversees regular immigration procedures (family- and work-based routes) in coordination with prefectures and consular posts, and oversees the integration of long-term residents who sign an integration contract with the state. It also facilitates voluntary return and reintegration for individuals whose rights have expired or who are in irregular situations, and it issues medical opinions for stay-for-care authorizations. Based in Paris in the Île-de-France region, the agency serves foreign nationals and the administrative partners involved in immigration policy. Its workforce consists of several hundred employees. Through its activities, OFII provides the administrative framework for asylum processing, regular immigration procedures, long-term residency integration, and care-related stay authorizations, operating in coordination with prefectures and diplomatic posts.
