ONI is a core element of the Navy’s Information Warfare Community, focused on achieving and maintaining an information advantage over potential adversaries. It collects, analyzes, and disseminates maritime intelligence to strategic, operational, and tactical decision-makers to meet Navy, DoD, and national requirements. Its integrated workforce comprises active duty and Reserve naval personnel along with civilian professionals who support combat operations and provide critical intelligence for planning defense against maritime threats worldwide. ONI produces maritime intelligence on naval weapons and technology proliferation, transnational maritime counter-proliferation, counter-narcotics, and the broader maritime environment to support the U.S. Navy, joint forces, and national decision-makers and agencies. Based in Suitland, Maryland, the organization is part of the armed forces and maintains four Centers of Excellence: the Nimitz Warfare Analysis Center, the Farragut Technical Analysis Center, the Kennedy Maritime Analysis Center, and the Hopper Global Communications Center.
