OSPI is the primary state agency responsible for overseeing K-12 public education in Washington. It coordinates with the state’s 295 school districts to administer basic education programs and advance education reform on behalf of more than a million public school students. Led by State Superintendent Chris Reykdal, the agency is based in Olympia, housed in the Old Capitol Building, and maintains a workforce of several hundred people. In March 2025, OSPI launched a universal online statewide platform to support the High School and Beyond Plan initiative.
