Oil Painters of America (OPA) is a not-for-profit association that represents a broad network of representational artists across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Founded in 1991, the organization aims to preserve and promote traditional fine art, focusing on drawing, color, composition, and the appreciation of light. It supports its members through competitions, critiques, scholarships, workshops, seminars, and demonstrations by established artists, thereby providing educational and professional development opportunities in the field of representational painting.
Based in Crystal Lake, near Chicago, OPA operates with a small professional staff and serves a community of artists who participate in regional and national exhibitions. The organization organizes and participates in events such as national juried exhibitions of traditional oils, offering members a forum to showcase work and gain recognition within the traditional art landscape.
