The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institute based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Founded in 1946, it operates across more than 50 laboratories with a broad staff focused on cancer, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, and aging-related conditions. Through its laboratory work, the organization has supported the development of therapies that later received FDA approval, including the first targeted treatment for sickle cell disease and the first approved treatment for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder. Its research has drawn attention from leading scientific journals as well as major newspapers, illustrating its reach beyond the scientific community. In June 2026, it was ranked 21st among institutes and centers in the inaugural Cure Innovation Index, signaling its role in translating scientific discovery into real-world healthcare impact.
