The Sultanate is moving towards building a world-class transport network as an enabler to its economic growth. The Sultanate's infrastructure is on the verge of a massive expansion, with numerous road projects, airports, railway networks and sea ports being developed. Oman Rail Company works in the development of the rail network as a major step in Oman's journey to become a key logistics hub for the GCC region. The rail network is being built in conjunction with other GCC member countries to connect rail services within the Gulf countries. The state-funded, 2,135 kilometre rail network - the country's first - is committed to connecting major Oman Ports of Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, to the borders of the United Arab Emirates by 2018 and the following years.
