OnePurpose School (OP), a public charter school, opened on August 18, 2015 in San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood with Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade. OP will grow to be a Transitional Kindergarten-12 school. Eighty five percent of OP students come from San Francisco’s highest-poverty neighborhoods including Bayview-Hunters Point, Excelsior, Mission, Potrero Hill, and Visitacion Valley. Fifty two percent of OP students are African-American and 46% are Latino and 91% are eligible for Free/Reduced lunch. OP's mission is to disrupt the cycle of poverty in San Francisco’s highest-poverty neighborhoods by preparing students to go to, and graduate from, college. Our long term vision is to see ALL students in San Francisco’s highest-poverty neighborhoods have access to an excellent K-12 education. Intended Impact: As a result of attending OP, our students will graduate college at seven times the rate of existing high schools in San Francisco’s high-poverty neighborhoods, which will have multi-generational impact. Children whose parents earned a college degree are five times as likely to graduate college as children whose parents did not. OP's Early Results: • 80% of OP Kindergarteners finished the year reading at grade level. • OP parents ranked the school on an average of 4.7 out of 5 across eight dimensions, such as culture, learning and assessment, and leadership. • 50 new students joined OP for our second year, a 68% jump in enrollment. • OP did not expel or counsel out even one student last year. OP is the first of three-to-five Transitional Kindergarten-12 schools the OP organization intends to build. At scale, our organization will serve approximately 3,000 students in San Francisco’s highest-poverty neighborhoods.
