The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research is a collaborative, not-for-profit research organization focused on translational cancer research to accelerate discoveries for patients worldwide while maximizing the benefits of this work for people in Ontario. It conducts cross-disciplinary work in genomics, immuno-oncology, informatics, drug discovery, and molecular pathology through partnerships across health care, research, government, and the private sector. It supports research by building networks, securely sharing data, and providing tools and resources to the research community, and translates findings into clinical practice by developing guidelines, supporting clinical trials, and commercializing innovations with its partner Fight Against Cancer Innovation Trust. Based in Toronto, Ontario, OICR partners with Ontario's oncology community to accelerate the development and implementation of knowledge, products, services, and policies to improve cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment for patients in Ontario and worldwide. A recent development is the appointment of Dr. Aaron Schimmer as President and Scientific Director, effective August 4, 2026.
