onX Founder Eric Siegfried was plenty familiar with the challenges of knowing where public and private boundaries could be found. What was unfamiliar was the situation he found himself in during the 2009 season in Southwest Montana—the longtime hunting guide was lost in fading light. Eric managed to find his way back to the truck that night, but the experience lingered as he worked to combine the power of land ownership data and GPS technology to create a tool that told hunters where they could go, where they were, and how to get back home. 

Eric also recognized that there is no adventure without access, and onX’s DNA drives us to dedicate time, money, and human/vehicle power to clean up trailheads, rebuild trails, and open access to public land.
