Open Source Wellness is a California-based wellness and fitness services organization founded in 2016 by psychologists Dr. Elizabeth Markle and Dr. Benjamin Emmert-Aronson to address fragmentation in physical and mental health. Based in Oakland, it delivers the Community As Medicine (CAM) model in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and partners with Recipe4Health in Alameda County to serve Medi-Cal populations. CAM is an equity-centered, trauma-informed, culturally relevant coaching approach that supports physical activity, healthy nutrition, social connection, and stress reduction, with a focus on the whole person. The organization licenses CAM to community, clinical, and health-plan partners across the United States and operates the CAM Learning Collaborative to provide training and implementation support for scaling programs. It also offers CAMtP, a NBHWC-approved health-coach training program. A 2024 development noted OSW’s CAM Learning Collaborative launch, backed by Ardmore Institute of Health to expand CAM nationwide.
