OpenTravel Alliance is a not-for-profit trade association that develops and promotes open specifications to enable electronic exchange of business information across the travel industry. Founded in 1999 and based in San Francisco, California, it operates within the IT services and IT consulting landscape by coordinating industry-led standards work. Its member network includes airlines, car rental firms, hotels, cruise lines, railways, leisure suppliers, tour operators, travel agencies, solutions providers, technology companies, and distributors, all collaborating to identify needed messages, set priorities, and create standardized message structures. The resulting specifications are widely adopted across the industry, with tens of thousands of message structures in use and supporting tens of millions of daily exchanges between trading partners. In August 2025 OpenTravel announced an integration with Overture Maps to combine its object models with Overture's data framework and lay the groundwork for smarter, safer, and more connected global travel experiences.
