Since 1977, Optical Prescription Lab (OPL) has operated as a family owned independent laboratory. From its beginnings as a small, local optical lab in downtown Birmingham, OPL has become an advanced, highly capable lab that provides premium optical products to ECPs throughout the southeast.

In 2006, OPL became the first and only independent lab in the southeast to install a Crizal AR coating facility, expanding an already strong relationship with Essilor USA. Our full line of Essilor brands, such as Varilux, Transitions and Crizal are complemented with other premium offerings from Hoya, Seiko Optical, Shamir, X-Cel Optical, Younger Optics, and others.

Our membership in the Optical Laboratories Association and the Vision Council assures that we receive and exchange information on the most recent technology in lenses and processing techniques. Both organizations produce informative programs and literature for eye care practitioners and consumers.

As in the beginning, OPL remains dedicated to the independent eye care professional and we know that our own success is ultimately measured by your success.
