Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) is a nonprofit focused on protecting and restoring public lands and waterways in Oregon’s high desert. Its work centers on preserving ecologically vital desert landscapes for future generations, with a goal of securing permanent protection for millions of acres and supporting diverse wildlife populations. The organization represents more than 10,000 members and supporters and operates as the only group dedicated exclusively to Oregon’s high desert public lands. Based in Bend, Oregon, ONDA advances conservation through initiatives such as wilderness designation, exemplified by the protection of areas like Oregon’s Badlands and Spring Basin and the creation of Steens Mountain Wilderness in 2000. Acknowledging ongoing community and ecological restoration efforts, ONDA has launched programs like the Tribal Stewards initiative to engage indigenous communities in restoration work and intern programs to foster new conservation leadership.
