Orono Public Schools is a public K-12 district in western Hennepin County, Minnesota, serving all or parts of Independence, Long Lake, Maple Plain, Medina, Minnetonka Beach and Orono across 49 square miles. The district's administrative address is 685 North Old Crystal Bay Road, Orono, and it employs 201–500 staff. It operates a central 120-acre campus that houses Schumann Elementary, Orono Intermediate, Orono Middle, and Orono High School, serving about 2,900 students. Orono Public Schools participates in the Metro West Conference for athletics and activities and offers a core curriculum with Advanced Placement options, plus K-12 gifted education and comprehensive special education programs. Technology is integrated across multiple subjects, and the district supports a wide range of academic and athletic co-curricular programs, with approximately 85% participation at the high school level. The district has been designated a National District of Character, and in 2022 Orono High School was ranked the top traditional high school in Minnesota by U.S. News & World Report.
