The Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) supports the orthopaedic community by funding research and education that underpin clinical practice. Founded in 1955 by leaders from the American Orthopaedic Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Orthopaedic Research Society, the foundation is based in Rosemont, Illinois. It operates as a small-to-mid-sized nonprofit in the research services field and has provided substantial funding to orthopaedic research and related education. OREF engages in partnerships and programs with professional societies and other organizations to advance priorities in the field, including initiatives addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion in orthopaedics and reducing disparities in care. Through collaborations and ongoing support for awards and education, it aims to expand the scientific base of orthopaedic clinical practice and serve researchers and clinicians across the orthopaedic community.
