The Outward Bound Center for Peacebuilding is a nonprofit organization operating in the international affairs sector, based in Long Island City, New York. It designs leadership and peacebuilding programs that begin with a wilderness expedition aimed at expanding participants’ personal and collaborative capabilities, followed by activities and initiatives developed with local partners to foster compassionate leadership, teamwork, and trust across communities and with the environment. The Center targets leaders and professionals across sectors, including emerging leaders from divided societies, and collaborates with partner organizations such as Costa Rica Outward Bound, the University of Peace in Costa Rica, and Outward Bound Ecuador to deliver experiential peacebuilding programs. In addition to its ongoing programming, the organization pursues new program development in regions including the Balkans, Myanmar, and Rwanda to strengthen leadership capacity among young people committed to peace. The Center operates with a small staff and emphasizes outcomes such as enhanced leadership self-awareness and increased trust and empathy toward others.
