Oxfam India is a standalone Indian nonprofit organization focused on reducing inequality by addressing discrimination and injustice. Based in New Delhi, it operates as an autonomous affiliate within the Oxfam network, with leadership and staff drawn from within India. The organization traces its presence in India to 1951, when it first came to respond to the Bihar famine, and it became an independent Indian NGO in 2008 under Section 8 of the Indian Companies Act, 2013. Its work targets communities affected by inequality and discrimination, seeking to create conditions where people have equal opportunities to thrive. In January 2025, media reports indicated that authorities filed a charge sheet in a CBI probe alleging FCRA violations by Oxfam India and its office bearers.
