The Parkway, formally known as the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, is a conservation-focused organization based in Fresno, California. Its work centers on preserving and restoring lands along the San Joaquin River that have ecological, scenic, or historical value, with an emphasis on public stewardship, scientific study, and educational and recreational use that aligns with resource protection. Since its founding in 1988, the trust has developed and protected a 22-mile river corridor through land acquisition, habitat restoration, and the creation of amenities such as multi-use trails, river access, fishing and canoeing opportunities, and the River Center, a restored historic house with exhibits and trails. The organization engages a broad community, delivering conservation and education programs to tens of thousands annually, including a substantial portion of students from Fresno and Madera counties, and plans for continued expansion of the trail network and open spaces. In addition to its ongoing preservation and educational activities, the trust has pursued strategic acquisitions to restore and enhance river habitat, reflecting its role within the regional conservation and outdoor recreation landscape of the Central Valley.
