We are a nonprofit organization serving Monroe County, Indiana, with a mission to provide high-quality, affordable early learning and to promote economic mobility for families. For more than 80 years, we’ve worked diligently to meet the evolving needs of our community and to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Pathways primarily serves individuals and families who are experiencing—or at risk of—poverty. When we talk about poverty, we’re talking about the chronic scarcity and stress that accompany it. While each person’s experience is unique, some of the most common factors contributing to poverty in Monroe County include: -Low wages -Limited availability of jobs with sustainable pay -Unaffordable healthcare -High cost of living -Generational poverty Living in poverty often creates what researchers call a cognitive tax. The constant pressure of meeting immediate needs—like paying for food and housing—can make it difficult to focus on long-term goals. This stress can affect memory, decision-making, and planning, keeping individuals trapped in cycles of scarcity. At Pathways, we walk alongside people as they navigate these challenges. We meet each person where they are, providing individualized support and resources designed to empower them to improve their circumstances and move toward financial stability and long-term security. Our work places a special emphasis on breaking the cycle of generational poverty. That’s why we offer comprehensive, multi-generational programming—connecting our licensed, high-quality early learning center with our Family Resource Center. Together, these programs create a wrap-around network of care that supports families as a whole, helping them build a stronger foundation for the future.
