Paytm Labs is the research and development arm of Paytm, operating in the technology, information and internet sectors. Founded in 2014, it is based in Toronto with a Montreal office, and it maintains a mid-sized team. The unit applies large-scale data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning to Paytm's data assets to tailor financial products for a broad user base, including over 450 million consumers and more than 20 million merchants.

Canadian initiatives began in 2017 with the Paytm Canada app, enabling bill payments and rewards via mobile. In 2018, Paytm Labs joined with SoftBank and Yahoo! Japan to launch PayPay in Japan, a QR-based payment service that has grown to around 30 million customers. In 2023, Paytm Labs announced Paytm Intelligence (Pi) as a dedicated unit in Canada, underscoring ongoing development of machine-learning-driven risk management capabilities.
