PEAR is a framework and distribution system for reusing PHP components. Short for PHP Extension and Application Repository, it provides a centralized library of open-source PHP code and a mechanism for packaging and distributing software. The project also defines a standard coding style and includes the PHP Extension Community Library, supported by a website, mailing lists, and download mirrors. Based in the United States, PEAR is a community-driven project governed by its developers, organized into groups and leadership roles. Founded in 1999 by Stig S. Bakken, its mission is to provide reusable components, advance PHP best practices, and educate developers.
